The cargoes handled by Riga Freeport in 2012 are expected to grow by at least 10%, said Riga Freeport administrator Leonids Loginovs in an interview with BNS.

"At present the port is using 80% of its capacity, thus, this year we will increase cargo handling by at least 10%. An important issue is what happens with the launched investment projects. Building of four terminals has already been suspended due to complaints of weird NGOs, including construction of the new terminal for reloading mineral fertilizers," said Loginovs.

He said that considering the general development of the port, the total size of handled cargos this year might reach almost 40 million tons, informed BC the Latvian Institute.
