Jun Up until now, the train Vikingas, which leaves from the port of Klaipeda, visited three Ukrainian ports. Recently, a new port was added to the train's journey, jura24.lt said.

The train Vikingas is a joint project of the Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, along with the port companies of Klaipeda, Iljichiovsk and Odessa. Now, the project was joined by another Ukrainian port of Juzhnij, located 30 kilometers away from Odessa. This port is smaller compared to the port of Klaipeda, writes LETA.

The embankment length of the port is 5.5 kilometres and the biggest depth is 15 meters. During the first quarter, the port managed to handle 5 million 391 thousand tons of cargo. The main cargoes of the port are ore, chemical products and coal.

This port also accommodates the only independent terminal in Ukraine called Transinvestservis, created out of nothing in the publicly owned port. This terminal will be served by the train Vikingas. In other words, the train Vikingas will be loaded or unloaded in the train station of Chernomorskaja.

The Ukrainian government has provided this new route, from Berezhest (Belarusian-Ukrainian border) to Chernomorskaja, for the train Vikingas until the end of this year. In case this route proves to be profitable for the train, then the deadline will be extended until 2013. Analogous permission has been given to the train Zubr which goes from the port of Riga to Ukraine.
