In a meeting with members of the Saeima's Foreign Affairs Committee today, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Reform Party), who recently returned from Brazil, said that the Brazilian government is interested in using the opportunities that Latvian ports can provide.

In September, the Riga Freeport will host a large delegation from Brazil, which will be headed by the secretary of Brazil's port affairs. It is likely the Brazilian delegation will also visit other Latvian ports, writes LETA.

Rinkevics explained that Brazil sees Latvia's geographic position as a gateway between the European Union and the east.

The foreign minister also added that Japan has also expressed similar interests in Latvian ports.
