Number of visitors in Latvian hotels increased by 22.2% in Q4

In comparison with the 4th quarter of 2010, the number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments (1) in the 4th quarter of 2011 has increased by 22.2% and comprised 327.5 thousand people, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

Of which 65.1% were foreign tourists and 34.9% – residents of Latvia. The number of foreign visitors has grown by 22.3%, but the number of Latvian visitors – by 21.9%.

 

The total number of overnight stays in the 4th quarter of 2011 has reached 673.3 thousand, and it is 17.2% more than in the 4th quarter of 2010.

 

The highest share of the foreign tourists stayed in Riga – 84.9%, in Jūrmala – 5.9% and in Liepāja – 2.2%. The highest share of Latvian travellers stayed in Riga – 27.0%, Liepāja – 11.6% and Jūrmala – 7.4%.

 

At the end of the 4th quarter 15.9 thousand rooms and 35.7 thousand beds were available in the accommodation establishments.

 

The highest bed occupancy rate in Riga hotels was recorded in October – 45.3%. But the room occupancy rate in several four-star and five-star hotels of Riga in October reached even 85%.

Foreign visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments in breakdown
4th quarter of 2010 against 4th quarter of 2011

1.6 million persons were served in hotels and other accommodation establishments in 2011, and it is 20.9% more than in 2010. The number of foreign visitors grew by 24.3%, reaching 1.1 million persons. More detailed information will be published in the CSB database on 20 March 2012.


1 Every month CSB carries out a survey on hotels and other accommodation establishments that compiles information on Latvian accommodation establishments, excluding State specialized sanatoriums and convalescent homes, which provide health care services for State. The survey includes hotels with at least 4 rooms and other collective accommodation establishments with at least 5 rooms.
