Government of Japan: Hitachi opens door for other Japanese investments in Lithuania

On Monday, during his working visit to Japan, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius received some positive accounts on the development of the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said that the Visaginas NPP project is significant for regional energy security. Both prime ministers agreed that the Hitachi company is opening door for other Japanese companies' investments in Lithuania and the entire EU. Noda thanked for a consistent Lithuania's support in EU-Japan economic partnership agreement, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda also noted great significance of the VNPP project to the energy security of the region and stressed the importance of high standards of nuclear energy safety. Both Prime Ministers said that Hitachi company, that will invest in Lithuania, has been paving the way for investments by other Japanese companies both in Lithuania and the European Union.

 

The Japanese Prime Minister also thanked for Lithuania's consistent support for the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.

 

Prime Minister Kubilius also met with Minister of Economy of Japan Yukio Edano, who assured Kubilius that the VNPP project will receive every support from the Japanese government, including financial instruments at the disposal of the state.

 

A delegation led by Prime Minister Kubilius has been continuing its working visit to Japan scheduled for February 18-23, 2012.
