“Today we have 600 litres of car fuel corresponding to modern fuel requirements. By 2016, we plan to expand production and produce liquid fuels in a volume that would cover the needs of the whole of Estonia,” said Eesti Energia fuels sphere manager Harri Mikk.
Yesterday at the XI Eesti Energia oil shale day in Jõhvi, a test run with a car that used diesel fuel produced by Eesti Energia from oil shale confirmed that diesel fuel made out of shale oil has good qualities and can compete with car fuels made from oil.
“When oil shale is mined, often primarily the long tradition and history of it is stressed. For us, oil shale is the natural resource of the future,” said Eesti Energia board chairman Sandor Liive.
