Economy minister: flights between Estonia and Asia are possible

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 24.10.2011.Print version
Estonian economy and communications minister Juhan Parts discussed on Monday in China the possibilities of flight connections between Estonia and Asia with the transport minister of Singapore, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

“Tallinn is the closest European Union capital to Asia and we can take advantage of that,” said Parts. “We are building up our national aviation company and are looking in perspective, for partners from Asia,” he said. “Flights between Tallinn and some Asian country are possible,” confirmed Parts.

Parts and Singapore’s minister Lui Tuck Yew stated that there are not enough flight connections between Europe and Asia and it is possible to change that bilaterally. ”Small ones always have a chance too,” said Yew. He said that Singapore’s national carrier Singapore Airlines flies to Western Europe but does not have a connection with Eastern Europe.

Parts also met bilaterally with Indian transport minister C. P. Josh to discuss cooperation in aviation and highway transport.

Parts participates at the EU member states and Asian states transport ministers summit on October 24-25 in Chengdu, China.
