In August 2011, 192,868 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport, which was 40% more in comparison with August last year.

The average growth since the beginning of the year has been 38%, which makes Tallinn one of the fastest growing airports in Europe in terms of passengers. As autumn comes, the high season of air travel is gradually passing; however, comparing to last year's substantial growth in passenger traffic is also expected in September, writes LETA.

The growth in charter traffic was influenced by two Baltic Sea cruise turnarounds, during which more than 3000 Spanish tourists were served. The resorts in Turkey, Spain, Greece and Bulgaria proved to be popular among Estonian charter passengers. The furthest destination of non-scheduled flights was 8200 kilometers in Melbourne, Florida, USA.

The highest frequency of scheduled flights – seven daily connections in both directions – was between Tallinn and Riga, resulting in more than 20 thousand passengers in August. Remarkable growth was experienced on Tallinn-Moscow route triggered by the successful start of operations of Russian carrier Utair. The biggest passenger market was Great Britain with scheduled routes to six airports, followed by Germany with five different destinations.

Estonian Air served 32% of Tallinn Airport passengers, Ryanair – 22% and airBaltic – 12%.
