Local and foreign basketball fans during the European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2011) will be able to use a unique mobile payment service MokiPay, created by the Lithuanian company MokiPay Europe. This service is an official settlement system of this championship.

Lithuania is the first country in the world to introduce the service in such a wide scope. "We are the leading nation in basketball. I hope we will shortly prove this once again. We are also leaders in the fields of some technologies. The presented innovations both to the whole world and to ourselves prove that Lithuania is a successful country," Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said Friday during the presentation of the new payment service.

He tried out the new service at a restaurant in Vilnius together with President of Lithuanian Basketball Federation Vladas Garastas and Ambassador of the EuroBasket 2011 Arvydas Sabonis. The innovative mobile payment service will allow paying in the EuroBasket 2011 arenas and cities' shopping centres only using a mobile telephone, by the help of the contactless NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, reports LETA/ELTA.

The communication infrastructure will be provided to the company MokiPay Europe by the mobile telecommunications company Omnitel.
