EU: largest increase in employment rate in Latvia in Q3

The number of employed people in Latvia in this year's third quarter of 2010, in comparison to the second quarter, has increased by 2%, thus being the largest increase in EU, according to the Statistical Office of the European Commission Eurostat.

The employment rate in Lithuania has grown by 0.6%, while in Estonia it dropped by 0.8%.

 

The employment rate in EU, as well as in the euro area, has remained constant.

 

An increase in the employment rate has been registered in 12 countries, while the decrease has been registered in eight countries. In Netherlands, the employment rate has remained the same, writes LETA.

 

In Latvia, this year, the number of employed people increased by 0.1% which followed the decrease by 6.7% in this year's second quarter.

 

In Lithuania, when comparing this year's results, a decrease by 5.1% has been registered, whereas in Estonia the employment rate dropped by 4.1%.

 

The largest drop has been registered in Lithuania, and the largest increase – in Malta – by 2.6%.

 

According to Eurostat's calculations, 221.2 million people in EU and 144.5 million people in the eurozone were employed in this year's third quarter.
