Latvia: Number of passengers on international train routes up 8% in 11 months

The number of passengers on international train routes from Riga rose by 8 percent to 215,781 passengers in the first 11 months of this year, Latvijas Dzelzcels railway company representative Ella Petermane reported LETA.

The largest number of passengers was traditionally carried on Riga-Moscow-Riga route - 114,676, declining by 3.2% from a year ago. The next most popular route was Riga-St.Petersburg-Riga with 54,187 passengers, growing 7.4%.


Also, Riga-Minsk-Riga route carried 5,237 passengers, down 32.9% y-o-y.


In cooperation with Ukrainian railway company, Kyiv-Minsk-Vilnius-Riga route was launched in September 2018, and this year it has been used by 18,763 passengers.

The Riga-Valga route in the first 11 months of this year saw 14,333 passengers, up 16.6% y-o-y.


Last year 215,995 passengers were carried on international routes from Riga.
