Klaipeda port exceeds FY2017 cargo handling result

The Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda handled 44.227 mln tons of cargo by December 17, up 2.4% from 43.17 mln tons in the full year 2017, according to preliminary figures released by the port authority on Tuesday.

The total volume includes 18.586 mln tons of bulk cargo, 15.778 mln tons of general cargo and 9.864 mln tons of liquid cargo. 


Total cargo volumes for January through November 2018 rose by 7.7% y-o-y to 42.241 mln tons.

General cargo volumes surged by 32% to 15.029 mln tons and bulk cargo volumes were by 1.4% to 17.876 mln tons. Liquid cargo volumes fell by 10.3% to 9.336 mln tons.


Klaipeda this year continues to outperform ports in neighboring Latvia. Riga posted a 6.5% increase in cargo traffic to 33.145 mln tons for the eleven months. Ventspils saw cargo volumes go up by 1.3% to 18.766 mln tons and Liepaja recorded a 13.8 % rise to 6.893 mln tons.


The Klaipeda port authority's revenue for January through November rose by 6.3% y-o-y to 57.88 mln euros. 


The Lithuanian port has this year invested 38.154 mln euros, exceeding its 2018 investment plan by 21.2%.
