Latvian ports handle 5.9% more cargo in January-November
In the first eleven months of this year, Latvian ports
mostly transshipped loose cargo - 33.742 mln tons (8.9% more than in the same
period last year). This amount included 18.886 mln tons of coal (14% increase),
2.408 mln tons of chemicals (4.2% decrease), 1.401 mln tons of woodchips (7 %
increase).
Liquid cargo turnover at Latvian ports decreased 9.2% to
14.089 mln tons. Oil products accounted for most liquid cargo handled by
Latvian ports - 13.275 mln tons (10.2 % decrease).
Bulk cargo turnover increased 18.9% to 12.67 mln tons -
container cargo turnover amounted to 4.535 mln tons (6% increase), wood - 4.378
mln tons (46.9% increase), and roll-on/roll-off cargo - 3.255 mln tons (10.1%
increase).
Riga Port was the largest Latvian port in terms of cargo
turnover in the first eleven months this year, handling a total of 33.145 mln
tons of cargo (6.5% increase year on year), followed by Ventspils Port with
18.766 mln tons (1.3% up) and Liepaja Port with 6.893 mln tons (13.8%
increase).
Skulte was the leader among Latvia's small ports with cargo
turnover at 910,400 tons (18.9% increase on the first eleven months of 2018),
followed by Mersrags Port - 408,400 tons (4.5% increase), and Salacgriva Port -
310,000 tons (25.6% increase).
The small ports' total cargo turnover in January-November
was 1.696 mln tons, an increase of 17% on the first eleven months last year.
