Estonian Railways to add rail cars, departures on Russia route for holiday season

BC, Tallinn, 07.12.2018.Print version
Due to the expected rise in passenger numbers during the period of year-end holidays, Estonian Railways will add rail cars to the train service between Estonia and Russia and increase the number of departures, informed LETA/BNS.

Monika Lilles, spokesperson for the state-owned railway infrastructure company, told  that Estonian Railways and the state railway company of Russia have agreed about extending train number 34/33, Tallinn–St. Petersburg–Moscow, to up to 14 cars from the usual six or seven cars plus a restaurant car.

The longer train will be in operation from Dec. 22 to Jan. 10. The train will not depart from Moscow and Tallinn on Dec. 31.

As the longer train is not expected to suffice to handle the increased number of passengers from Russia, additional trains of up to 15 cars will be put into service between the two capitals.

One of the extra trains, train number 233, will depart from Moscow on Dec. 28 and 30 and on Jan. 2, 4 and 6, and arrive in Tallinn at 10:19 a.m. on Dec. 29 and 31 and on Jan. 3, 5 and 7. Train number 234, Tallinn-Moscow, will depart from Tallinn at 7:20 p.m. on Dec.  29 and Jan. 3, 5 and 7.
