Latvia raises exports of forestry products by 5.7% in 9 months

During the first nine months of 2017, Latvia exported EUR 1.648 billion worth of forestry products, up 5.7% against the same period last year, writes LETA, according to information released by the Agriculture Ministry.

Timber and timber products made up the bulk or 84.6% of total forestry product exports in the first nine months of 2017 (85.2% in the nine month period in 2016), accounting for EUR 1.394 billion and rising 4.9% year-on-year.

 

Timber exports in January-September this year included EUR 445.067 million worth of sawn timber, down 3.7% year-on-year. Firewood exports dropped 3.2% to EUR 206.728 million, and plywood exports declined 10.8% to EUR 146.755 million. Exports of woodchip plates increased 19.2% to EUR 138.74 million, and round-timber exports fell 6% to EUR 97.748 million.

 

Furniture exports grew 2.4% year-on-year to EUR 110.873 million in the first nine months of this year, and exports of paper, cardboard and their products rose 13.3% year-on-year to EUR 87.98 million.

 

In January-September this year Latvia supplied its forestry products mainly to the UK (17.1%), Estonia (10.7%) and Germany (10.2%). As compared to the first nine months of 2016, forestry industry exports to the UK dropped 6.7% to EUR 281.173 million, exports to Estonia increased 11.9% to EUR 176.134 million, and exports to Germany rose 8.7% to EUR 168.185 million.

 

In the first nine months of 2016, Latvia exported EUR 1.559 billion worth of forestry products.
