Latvia and Belarus agree to expand cooperation in aviation

On Monday, October 2, the Latvian delegation led by the ministry’s deputy
state secretary Uldis Reimanis,
participated in the workgroup’s meeting in Minsk and met with representatives
of the Belarusian transport sector.
The workgroup on transport discussed current Latvian-Belarusian cooperation
issues in the areas of rail and road traffic, aviation, transit and logistics,
as well as joint preparations for the 2021 world ice-hockey championship, which
will take place in Riga and Minsk.
According to information provided by the Latvian Transport Ministry, the
talks in Minsk focused on maintaining the existing cargo basis, and agreement
was reached on attracting new cargos to the Belarus-Latvia route. The officials
also underlined plans for close cooperation on the Eurasian Transport Corridor
by jointly developing a transport and logistics chain from China through
Belarus and Latvia to Scandinavian countries on the basis of the two countries’
logistics infrastructure.
The workgroup of the intergovernmental commission also agreed to update the
Latvian-Belarusian 1995 railway cooperation agreement by the Latvian-Belarusian
intergovernmental commission’s next meeting, planned for 2018. The sides also
agreed on expanding cooperation in aviation, which includes both passenger and
cargo transportation.
Representatives of the workgroup on transport had separate meetings with
the administration of Minsk National Airport and visited the China-Belarus
Industrial Park Great Stone.
On Tuesday, the Latvian delegation is visiting the international industrial
fair Transport and Logistics 2017 as part Belarusian Transport Week.
