In August, retail trade turnover in Latvia grew by 5.3%

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to August 2016, total retail trade turnover in August 2017 rose by 5.3%. Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 7.7%, while turnover of retail trade in non-food products grew by 4.1%.

The most significant growth in turnover in the non-food product group was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 18.9%), retail sale of information and communication equipment (18.8%), retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (16.2%) and retail sale of clothing and footwear (3.3%). In turn, a drop in turnover was experienced in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 2.9%), as well as in retail sale of automotive fuel (2.1%).



 

The total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 8.5% (not taking into account the calendar influence).

 

Compared to July, in August 2017 retail trade turnover grew by 0.6% (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products rose by 2.0%, whereas turnover of retail trade in non-food products decreased by 0.3%.

 

Growth in turnover was experienced in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 10.9%), retail sale of information and communication equipment (5.7%), retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (4.3%), retail sale via stalls and markets (2.3%), as well as in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (1.2%).

 

In turn, a decrease in turnover was recorded in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 2.9%), as well as in retail sale of clothing and footwear (0.8%).

 

Compared to July, in August 2017 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) rose by 3.0%.
