Number of flights handled by Latvian air traffic controller up 8% in January-August

Latvian air traffic controller Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS), which is responsible for managing air traffic in Latvia, handled 179,557 flights in the first eight months of 2017, which is a growth by 8% from the same period in 2016, the company said, cites LETA/BNS.

In January-August this year, LGS handled 48,803 flights to and from Riga, up 8% from the same period last year, and the number of transit flights handled by LGS also grew 8% to 130,754.

 

In August this year, LGS handled 26,644 flights, up 10.8% from the same period last year, including 19,458 transit flights, up 9.4%, and 7,186 flights to and from Riga, which was a rise by 14.8% year-on-year.

 

During the first eight months of 2016, LGS handled 166,217 flights, while 246,999 flights were handled in the full year 2016, up 0.7% from 2015. The 2016 total includes 67,825 flights to and from Riga, unchanged year-on-year, as well as 179,174 transit flights at a 1% growth from 2015.

 

LGS is a fully state-owned company providing air navigation services to air space users.
