Optimistic outlook for ferry shipping in Lithuania
BC, Vilnius, 23.08.2017.Print version
The Gardenia Seaways, a large ro-ro freight vessel of Klaipeda-registered DFDS Seaways, entered service between the Dutch port of Rotterdam and the British port of Imminghan in 2017, and as its sister ship, the Tulipa Seaways, is to be added to the route shortly, the daily Lietuvos Zinios reported on August 22nd, cites LETA/BNS.
The Tulipa Seaways will become the 12th ship with a Lithuanian crew in the
company's fleet. Currently, three of DFDS
Seaways' 11 vessels are ro-ro vessels designed to carry wheeled cargoes and
the rest are ro-pax ferries designed to carry cargoes and passengers.
Low-cost air carriers pose major competition for passenger ferries. With
airfares rising, however, the popularity of ferry travel is expected to
increase and maritime trade is also set for growth, the paper wrote.
