Rail freight in Latvia up 0.1% in January-July
“Some freight categories showed decline, which was caused by seasonality,
while others showed growth, evening out the overall freight figures,” LDz representatives said.
Most of the freight carried by rail in Latvia in the seven months of 2017
was import cargos, accounting for 23.565 million tons, down 2.2% year-on-year.
Of this amount, 21.763 million tons were shipped through Latvian ports, which
was 0.4% more than a year ago.
During the seven months 1.974 million tons of transit freight were carried
by land, which was 2.2 times more than a year ago.
Export cargos in the seven months of 2017 fell 34.7% year-on-year to 1.005
tons, and export cargos shipped through Latvian ports rose by 0.5% to 793,000
tons. Shipping of domestic cargos increased by 3.5% to 689,000 tons.
In July freight shipping by rail in Latvia was down 7.7% year-on-year to
2.868 million tons.
