Estonian international coach operator Lux Express in the first half of the year 2017 carried by 23% more passengers in the Baltic states than in the first six months of 2016, the company said, cites LETA.

"The six-month results of Lux Express reveal a positive trend - a growing number of Latvians choose to travel to the Baltic capitals by bus," said Krisjanis Rekis, a board member of Lux Express.

He said the number of Latvian travelers this year had increased by 25% compared to the first half of last year with growth recorded on the coach routes to both Tallinn (+25%) and Vilnius (+26%).

Lux Express is increasing the number of bus runs on Riga-Tallinn and Riga-Vilnius routes to 13 runs a day from 11 runs currently. "With the renewal of its bus fleet, Lux Express aims to increase the frequency of runs so that in 2018 buses will be departing from Riga to Tallinn and Vilnius every hour," Rekis said.

This year Lux Express invested around EUR 3 million in six new business class coaches that were put on the Riga-Tallinn route on June 12.

Lux Express Group is an international coach operator offering its services in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, Belarus and Russia.
