The new envelopes will be cancelled on Friday, August 11, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Scouts and Guides' jamboree Centennial Bonfire at Lake Lubans.

The print run of the "Scouting in Latvia - 100" envelope is 1,000 copies, and it has been designed by Ludis Danilans. The design of the envelope incorporates the symbol of the centennial of scouting - a bonfire, which figuratively represents the place where scouts come together.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the arrival of scouting to Latvia when the first Scout groups started to form in 1917. The centennial is celebrated August 6 to 12 at the Jamboree Centennial Bonfire, the biggest Latvian scout jamboree of the past 15 years that brings together around 450 participants, not only from Latvia but also from other countries of the world.

Scouting and guiding is a movement for informal education of young people aimed at developing their physical and mental skills - the need to explore and discover and the desire to learn. Currently there are about 800 active scouts and guides in Latvia. The Latvian Scout and Guide Central Organization is a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

The next philatelic release is scheduled for August 18, 2017.
