BC, Riga, 17.07.2017.Print version
Latvia’s Laima sweets maker plans to invest up to EUR 20 million in the coming three years in its new plant in Adazi, said representatives of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija, representing Laima brand, cites LETA.

Toms Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija said that after a careful investigation, the decision on the location of the new Laima production facility has been made in favor of Adazi town near Riga. The chosen location will provide Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija with growth opportunities that correspond with the long-term strategic vision of the company’s development in Latvia in terms of production size, scale and capacity.

The new production facility will be about 6,500 square meters large.

After Laima production is transferred from Miera Street in Riga to Adazi, the historic Laima office building and Laima Chocolate museum at Miera Street will house its administrative functions.

“The new Laima production facility will specialize in areas where we are strong and unique by developing the existing technological base. We will also invest in new technologies to meet the growing demand for innovative future products in local and regional markets. We will also continue to work closely with other Orkla companies to produce products upon their request and vice versa. Cooperation between Orkla's facilities is natural and we believe that this cooperation will only make Laima even more stronger,” said Didrihsons.

The new production facility will now move into its designing phase led by architecture and design firm Valeinis Un Stepe. Since it is also a subject of approval from municipal authorities, this phase can take up to a year. It is planned to start the construction in the first half of 2018 and complete it in the first quarter of 2019 and be in full production at the new plant in end of 2019.

Laima product portfolio includes almost 200 different products and they are exported to 27 countries of the world, including the US, Canada, China, Israel, the UK, Ireland, Russia. Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and others.

Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija is one of the leading producers of chocolate, confectionery and snacks in the Baltic states. Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija’s portfolio includes the following brands - Laima, Selga, Staburadze, Adazu Cipsi and Taffel.
