Riga airport raises turnover of passengers by 8.8% in H1

During the first half of 2017, Riga International Airport received by 8.8% more passengers that in the same period a year ago, LETA was told at the airport.

Nearly 800,000 of these passengers used Riga Airport as an international transfer hub, as the number of transit passengers grew by 18.5% year-on-year to 29% of the total number of air passengers arriving at Riga Airport.

 

The airport also set new passenger turnover records for two months in a row. In May, the number of passengers for the first time exceeded half a million (528,534), and in June the airport handled 591,616 passengers.

 

During the first six months of 2017, Riga Airport also handled 34,764 flights, up 5.3% from a year ago, and 10,000 tons of cargo, up 2.4%.

 

Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic States. More than 20 airlines operating at Riga Airport offer 60 destinations in the winter season and nearly 90 in the summer season.

 

In 2016, Riga Airport handled 5.6 million passengers, or nearly 45% of all air passengers in the Baltic States.
