Latvian road construction company A.C.B. has been working during nighttime to prepare the runway of Vilnius International Airport for reconstruction, LETA was told at the company.

The airport in the Lithuanian capital city is therefore closed to inbound flights from 2.05 a.m. to 5.05 a.m. From July 14 to August 18 the airport will be closed round-the-clock and flights will be diverted to the nearby airport of Kaunas.

“We are carrying out preparatory works before the airport’s closure in July and August – we have been removing excessive soil in some zones, providing structures for the airport’s runway strip, laying cable ducts, etc. This preparatory work will make it easier for us to successfully complete the runway’s major reconstruction in a short period of time,” said A.C.B. deputy technical director Dzintars Blumers.

A.C.B. has started reconstruction works worth nearly EUR 19 mln at Lithuania’s largest airport. The plan is to carry out the most important reconstruction works, or 70-80% of the planned amount, within 35 days, from July 14 to August 18.

A. C. B. group comprises eight road and bridge construction companies - A. C. B., 8 CBR, ACB Betons, Celi un Tilti, Celdaris, Mobil Asfalts, SMP Buve and Salenieku Bloks.

In 2015, the A.C.B. group generated more than EUR 80 mln in consolidated turnover.
