Ulemiste Keskus, a large shopping center situated in the area of Tallinn Airport, has decided to build an extension of 13,000 square meters by spring 2019, which will feature a cinema, gym, as well as a number of new restaurants and stores, and will cost a total of 35 mln euros, according the daily Postimees reports LETA/BNS.

"After the previous extension of the center we felt that something is missing. There is not enough entertainment. We are not aspiring to reach the level of Hong Kong or Paris, but in the shopping centers of the Baltic countries, a cinema is the epitome of entertainment," told head of Ulemiste Keskus Guido Parnits.

Construction work will start at the end of 2017 and work is expected to be finished by spring 2019. The present store area of 69,000 square meters of Ulemiste Keskus will increase by a fifth. Most of the new extension will be taken up by Apollo Cinema, but it will also house the gym People Fitness, three restaurants and cafes, and a number of new stores.

The new extension of the building will be built above the Rimi hypermarket. "We will be demolishing the hypermarket, building an underground car park, rebuilding the store and building an additional floor on top of it," Parnits said, adding that the grocery store will stay open during construction, albeit at a smaller capacity.

"We won't be cutting corners. Demolishing, building an underground car park and executing our design will be expensive. Building a cinema is also going to be much more expensive than building a regular store," Parnits said.
