Baltijas Ekspresis boosts rail freight turnover 3.4 times in Q1

Print versionIn the first three months of this year, Latvian rail freight company Baltijas Ekspresis raised its freight turnover 3.4 times compared to the same period in 2016, said the Baltic Association - Transport and Logistics (BATL) business organization.

The biggest rise in cargo transportation was achieved in March – more than four times. The company’s goal is to carry more than ten million tons of cargo by the end of this year. In order to achieve that, the company has created 40 new jobs.
Baltijas Ekspresis is seeing a steep growth – in a couple of months the number of shipped trains has risen from 5 to 18 cargo trains a day, said the company’s board chairman Maris Bremze.
Baltijas Ekspresis belongs to Ventbunkers (62.79%), Kalija Parks (20.56%), Ventspils Tirdzniecibas Osta (16.23%), Ventplac (0.39%) and Ivars Sormulis (0.03%).
In 2015 Baltijas Ekspresis generated EUR 39,869,693 in sales and earned EUR 4,502,816 in profit.
