Lithuania posts one of EU's largest increases in Jan-Feb new car sales

Lithuania's new car sales rose at one of the fastest rates in the EU in the first two months of this year compared with a year ago, figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) showed on Thursday.

New passenger car registrations in Lithuania jumped by 16.9% in January through February y-o-y to reach 3,471 units. Larger increases were only registered in Romania (40.9%), Greece (29.3%), the Netherlands (22.2%), Denmark (18.4%) and Hungary (18.2%).


Latvia posted a 12.2% annual increase to 2,622 and Estonia recorded a 6.8%  growth to 3,637 units.


In February year-on-year, new car sales rose by 16.6% to 1,642 in Lithuania, but fell by 5.6% to 1,177 in Latvia and edged down by 0.7% to 1,611 in Estonia.


Across the European Union, car sales grew by 6.2% to 2.248 million cars in the two months and by 2.2% to 1.079 million in February alone.
