BC, Tallinn, 05.01.2017.Print version
The listed Estonian shipper Tallink's new LNG-fueled fast ferry Megastar bunkered liquefied natural gas for the first time at the newly-completed Pori terminal in Finland on Wednesday, writes LETA/BNS.

The new ferry is to enter into service on the Tallinn-Helsinki route at the end of this month. The construction of the Megastar began on Aug. 4, 2015 and the launch took place on July 15, 2016.

The Megastar will be Tallink's largest fast ferry with a length of 212 meters. It can accommodate 2,800 passengers, the same number as the cruise ferry Baltic Queen. The vessel will use LNG as fuel, but will also be able to run on marine diesel.

Built specially for the Tallinn-Helsinki route, the Megastar complies with the current and future regulations for emission control areas, including the Baltic Sea.

The 230 mln euro vessel was co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility with 4.8 mln euros.
