Dobeles Dzirnavnieks plans to return investments in new cereal plant in 5-7 years

Latvia’s Dobeles Dzirnavnieks grain processing company plans to return the investments made in the new cereal plant in 5-7 years, the company’s board chairman Kristaps Amsils told BC.

In his words, the company needed three years to be able to implement the idea of the new plant and this was done in cooperation with a strong team, loyal partners that supported this plan.


Amsils said that the new plant will ensure a capacity of two tons an hour. "We have professional employees, new, modern and efficient technologies which together can make a real local superproduct," said Amsils.


Amsils also said that the new plant makes different products, wholegrain oat, wheat, rye and barley flakes, also buckwheat and rice flakes, processed oat flakes, flake mixes, which are certified for the national food quality scheme High Quality Product. The new production line will also make the first organic products.


According to the company board chairman, flakes is the product of the future. "More and more we wish to use functional and clean food that gives us energy, also, we prefer home-made meals," he said, adding that it is also important that a meal can be prepared fast, and flakes solve this situation.


As reported, a new cereal plant launched by Dobeles Dzirnavnieks grain mill will enable the company to increase grain processing by about 10 percent to 220,000 tons a year. Total investments in the project reached EUR 6.4 mln, a part of which was raised from the European Regional Development Fund.


Dobeles Dzirnavnieks last year generated EUR 98.507 mln in sales, up 27%  from a year ago, while the company's profit declined 3.6 times to EUR 1.14 million. The company exported 60% of its output.


Dobeles Dzirnavnieks, founded in 1994, has a share capital of EUR 3.78 mln, and employs 196 people. Since 2008 the company’s owner is Estonian company Tartu Mill.


The main business operations of Dobeles Dzirnavnieks include storage and processing of grain and grain products, production of all types of flour and flour mixtures, production of manna, pearl barley, food grade bran, processing of buckwheat, packing of food products, wholesale, retail sales and supply of fodder in the whole territory of Latvia.
