Riga Freeport administration’s representatives took part in TransUzbekistan 2016 fair and assessed cooperation potential in the transport sector with Uzbekistan, the port’s spokeswoman Anita Leiskalnce told LETA.

She said that TransUzbekistan 2016 fair which is the most important Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics event, was held in Tashkent on November 16-18, and Riga port was represented by the Riga Freeport administration and port’s companies Rigas Universalais Terminals and TFS Trans.

The port participated in the fair in Latvia’s national stand together with Ventspils, Liepaja and Mersrags ports, Latvijas Dzelzcels railway company, and Latvia’s logistics companies, presenting Latvia’s transport corridor.

"The main task of the Riga Freeport administration was to promote recognition of the Riga port, present the port’s services and cooperation opportunities, develop a dialogue with local cargo transportation companies," said Leiskalne, adding that given the specifics of Central Asian countries in decision making, regular communication and development of positive relationship with Uzbek business representatives and state officials is essential.

She said that this year the port’s representatives felt somewhat reserved attitude which can be explained with the change of power in Uzbekistan, and also European-Russian sanctions that affect transit of Uzbek cargos to Europe. This wish for cooperation, however, remains high on both parties.
