Latvia’s Laima invests EUR 1.6 mln in production equipment

Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija has invested EUR 1.6 mln Laima sweets maker’s new candy production equipment, increasing production capacity for the local and export markets, the company’s spokeswoman Lineta Miksa told LETA.

She said that along with investments in the new equipment, Laima starts production of a new candy collection Gourmet that will also be exported.


"The new equipment will ensure creation of candies with fillings, icings, decors. So far only handwork was used to make such candies," said Miksa, adding that Gourmet collection will include two kinds of gift boxes and peanut chocolate truffles sold by weight.


At present Laima’s product portfolio consists of 250 different products sold in Latvia and abroad. Latvia exports its output to 27 countries across the world, including the US, Canada, China, Israel, the UK, Ireland, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan.


Laima was added to Orkla Confectionery& Snacks Latvija group on February 10, 2016. Latvian food companies Staburadze and Latfood have also become part of Orkla Confectionery& Snacks Latvija.


Orkla Confectionery& Snacks Latvija, registered in 2009, has a share capital of EUR 1.141 mln. The company belongs to Norway's Orkla, which has acquired 100 % in all companies of the NP Foods group: Laima, Gutta, NP Foods, Staburadze, Staburadzes Konditoreja, Lithuania's Margiris and Detente.
