Eesti Energia expects to start retail sales of electric energy on the Polish retail market in 2017, an executive said after Finance Minister Sven Sester had endorsed the establishment of a subsidiary of the state-owned Estonian energy group in Poland, informs LETA/BNS.

"In accordance with the recently endorsed new strategic action plan of Eesti Energia, we are planning to expand our retail sales on the markets around the Baltic Sea," Karla Agan, head of energy sales at Eesti Energia.

One of the steps in the realization of this plan is heading to the retail market of Poland. Eesti Energia is setting up a separate company for this purpose.

"While the time when retail sales could be started depends on how quickly licenses can be acquired in Poland, right now we are working toward being able to start selling there in 2017," Agan added.

The creation of the new company was endorsed on Thursday by Finance Minister Sven Sester as the representative of the government, the sole shareholder of Eesti Energia. The entity in Poland will be a limited-liability company with a registered capital of one million zloty or approximately 227,000 euros.
