Lux Express passenger numbers climb 21% in February-April

The Estonian operator of intercity buses Lux Express has said its passenger numbers in the three months from February to April 2016 grew by 21% year over year as a result of the new Public Transport Act, which allowed to put timetables in order and add new departures, informs LETA/BNS.

The board chairman of Lux Express, Hannes Saarpuu, said that additional departures coupled with timetables put in order made bus travel more attractive for potential customers and the number of passengers increased on all of the company's main routes.

"A so rapid and significant increase in passenger numbers shows that demand for quality intercity bus transport exists and keeps increasing," Saarpuu said in a press release.

The number of passengers carried by Lux Express between the beginning of February, when the new schedules took effect, and the end of April, grew 17% on the Tallinn-Tartu route and 3% on the Tallinn-Parnu route compared with the same three-month period a year ago.

The CEO added that while the addition of new departures, putting the timetables of departures in order and starting to take account of passenger numbers have all had a positive effect, the regulations for the issuance of line permits which say that of two bus lines the better is the one that makes more stops continues to be an obstacle.
