The world's largest airport operators, including Fraport, MAG, Vinci, Avialliance, Egis Group, Ferrovial and others, are already showing interest in Lithuania's three international airports, though the airports' concession issue is still being discussed at the country's parliament, the 15min news website reported, cites LETA/BNS.

Gediminas Almantas, director of Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), a state-owned company that manages the airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, has confirmed to the website that the concession plans are drawing a very strong interest from the market, adding that Lithuania should make the best possible use of the opportunities that are opening up to it.

Work on the airports' investment project is nearing completion.

"We have met several times with Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport and another 24 airports around the world. Officials from the Manchester Airports Group (MAG) have recently visited Lithuania. They own four airports in Britain and operate in two US airports," Almantas said.

"One of the top executives of a large group of French and Turkish airport operators has recently visited Vilnius. A team from the Vinci Group is currently visiting. Avialliance, Egis Group and the Ferrovial Group, the owner of London Heathrow Airport, have also expressed interest," he said.

Nicolas Notebaert, chairman of Vinci Airports, which operates 33 airports around the world and has recently been selected to operate two new airports in Japan, told 15min that the company was interested in Lithuania and in expansion in the region. Vinci already operates in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Russia.
