Maxima in Lithuania rolling out mobile payment technology

BC, Vilnius, 11.02.2016.Print version
Some of the cash registers installed by Lithuania’s largest supermarket chain Maxima support contactless payments already but the technology will not be put into use thus far, the Verslo Zinios business daily reports on February 11th, informs LETA/BNS.

Cash registers being installed in the stores of the chain are equipped with new PoS terminals that support the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and enable the so-called contactless payments. Such cash registers (approx. 700) account for slightly more than one-third of the total number of cash registers (about 2,000) used by the chain.

The retailer, which chooses such solutions as Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay, plans to replace all cash registers and PoS terminals within a couple of years.

Meanwhile, Palink, the operator of the grocery chain Iki, has not yet made investment in mobile payments. Norfa, a yet another grocery chain, has also decided to make no investment in mobile and other contactless payments thus far.
