Gamma-A begins sprat export to China

A tin of sprats, produced by Gamma-A, is currently on its way to Peking to be sold on one of the largest Chinese online stores in mid-October 2015, reports LETA, according to Sino Business Links Latvia co-owner Janis Arbidans.

"A deal has been made, the cargo has been processed, and it contains 45,000 cans of sprats produced by Gamma-A. Because the shipping takes 47 days, it is planned that sprat sales will kick off in mid-October on Peking's largest online store, which sells EU products. Given the large interest in sprats, we believe that it will be possible to sell the entire cargo," says Arbidans.

He also indicated that the next sprat will be shipped to China this year – in November or December.

When asked about the price in China, Arbidans declined to reveal a specific figure, indicating that it will be much higher than in Latvia, as sprats in China are considered to be a EU-made delicacy.

"The package also points out that it is a special product of Latvia, characteristic of the specific region," said the business owner.

As reported, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China (CNCA) has officially given permission to 11 Latvian fish processing companies to begin exports to China.

The list includes Brivais vilnis, Gamma-A, Licis-93 Gipka factory, Licis-93 Kolka factory, Karavela, Dorado, Piejura, Sabiedriba IMS, Saiva ANNO 1949, Saldus galas kombinats, and Unda.
