Full length train Viking, carrying 72 containers, has arrived in Ukraine's capital Kyiv from Lithuania's port city of Klaipeda on September 4th, reports LETA/ELTA.

The shipper of the cargo is Intermodal Container Service, one of the major customers of Viking train. Deputy Director of Freight Transportation Directorate at Lithuanian Railways, Saulius Stasiunas, says that the annual freight volume via Viking train is the largest between Lithuania and Belarus. It is hoped that the longest train formation so far will not be a one-off occurrence and that freight flow to Ukraine will increase as well.

"We are constantly looking for opportunities to expand the geography for this train, attract new clients and develop the services provided. Ukraine is one of the first and major partners of Viking train, therefore all countries participating in the project would benefit from more active trade and greater flows of cargo," said the deputy director.

Container train Viking project is a joint venture of railway companies of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Georgia. It connects the Baltic and the Black seas. Viking train carries universal and specialised containers.
