Number of tourists in Latvian hotels grew by 4.7% in Q2

In total in the 2nd quarter of 2015 there were 577.6 thsd visitors in Latvian accommodation establishments, which is 2.4% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2014.Number of local residents served reduced by 2.8% and comprised 165.8 thsd. The highest share of the Latvian residents stayed in accommodation establishments in Riga – 23.2%, in Jūrmala – 9.0%, in Liepāja – 6.3%, in Ventspils – 6.0%, in Daugavpils – 3.6%, in Kuldīga county – 3.1% and in Sigulda county – 3.0%. The highest share of the foreign visitors stayed in Riga – 81.1%, in Jūrmala – 7.6%, in Sigulda county – 1.7%, in Liepāja – 1.3%, in Daugavpils and Ventspils – 0.9% of visitors in each.
Since 2010 number of nights spent in accommodation establishments has risen each year by 10.4% on average. In its turn, in the 2nd quarter of 2015 the total number of nights spent reduced by 1.6%, as compared to the 2nd quarter of 2014. The number of nights spent in accommodation establishments by Latvian residents has reduced by 5.2%, but number of nights spent by foreign visitors has remained at the level of 2nd quarter of 2014.
In the 2nd quarter of 2015 there were 372.5 thsd visitors in Riga accommodation establishments, which is 7.7% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2014. 334.0 thsd or 81.1% of total foreign visitors served in Latvian accommodation establishments chose Riga accommodation establishments, which is a rise of 7.9%, as compared to the 2nd quarter of the last year. In Riga accommodation establishments mostly were served foreign visitors from Germany (14%), Russia (9.8%), Finland (6.6%), Estonia (6.4%), Norway (6.1%), Lithuania (5.8%), Sweden (5.5%), the United Kingdom (4.8%) and France (3.0%).
