Estonian state-owned port operator AS Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) had in the first half of the year an unaudited turnover of 53 million euros and net profit of 20.8 million euros, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Compared to the same period last year, the turnover was by 10% lower, on the other hand, net profit increased by 3%.

Tallinna Sadam Finance Manager Marko Raid said that the revenue decline was due to two factors – from the traditional port activities due to the decline in cargo volume and due to a decrease in revenue of icebreaker Botnica in the period outside icebreaking season.

The company's operating expenses decreased by 2%, reaching 25.9 million euros.

In the first half of this year, the rolling stock, mixed and dry bulk cargo volumes grew, but the aggregate effect of them was significantly lower than the effect of the fall of the volume of the biggest commodity group, the liquid cargo.

The cargo volume handled by ports operated by Tallinna Sadam fell in the first half of the year by 21% to 12.1 million tonnes.

The number of passengers remained at the level of the same period last year, reaching 4.4 million passengers.
