BC, Riga, 21.07.2015.Print version
On 21 July 2015, winners were determined in the Foreign Ministry’s grant project competition for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which receive funding from international donors including the European Commission for the implementation of projects in the fields of development cooperation or development education and public awareness raising, reports BC the Latvian MFA.

Two project applications were submitted for the competition. Having evaluated the projects and the funding available, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported both applications:

1. A project by the Education Development Centre to promote public interest and participation in development education and raise awareness of development issues for the general public.

2. A project by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments that will build the capacity and increase role of local governments in the promotion of development education and public awareness.

Through an annual open competition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides NGOs with the opportunity to receive co-financing for their development cooperation, development education and public awareness raising projects funded by international aid donors including the European Commission. Development cooperation and public awareness raising projects are implemented in Latvia whereas development cooperation projects take place in other countries.

The total funding available this year was 25,813 euros.
