Estonian bakery industry increased investments in Q1

Estonian bakery companies increased investments in fixed assets by 1.6 million euros in the first quarter of 2015, or nearly twice as much as a year ago, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture first quarter survey indicates that the Estonian bakery industry produced in the first quarter 33 million euros worth of production, of which exports accounted for 8.7 million euros, and a bakery industry exports rose by nearly 17% compared to last year.

 

Bakery industry production accounted for 9.7% of the food industry and 1.4% of the manufacturing industry output in the first quarter and 7% and 0.5% of the production exports.

 

Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Agricultural Products Manufacturing Industry Department Head Taavi Kand noted that although the bakery industry faced turnover slowdown and rapid growth of labour costs in the first quarter, the sector is preparing for growth, and doubled investments in fixed assets are aimed at boosting efficiency and capacity.

 

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of this year, there were 149 bakery businesses in Estonia, which employed a total of 2,859 people.
