In autumn 2015, Saare Golf will bring golf tourists from Scandinavia to Estonia’s largest island Saaremaa with Estonian Air convenient direct flights, Estonian Air announced LETA.

Exclusive golf and spa packages are valid from 30 August until 27 September 2015, and are already on sale from this spring. In total eight charter flights will be operated during this period between Stockholm Arlanda and Kuressaare. Flights are operated with 88-seater CRJ900 NextGen two times a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

According to Marko Kaldoja, the CEO of Saare Golf, there has been great interest in this opportunity. “Saaremaa, which is situated next to Gotland, a popular holiday destination among the Swedes, has aroused strong interest among golf players.

There are not many golf courses situated in the middle of nature and near city centre like Saare Golf course. Number of spas with affordable prices for Swedes is also adding attractiveness,” said Kaldoja.

Swedish golf experts have said that Saaremaa’s golf course is currently in the best condition and thanks to its modern golf architecture can offer challenges and experiences for players at different performance levels. Thanks to mild maritime climate the golf season in Saaremaa lasts much longer than on the mainland.

This year is the 370th anniversary of the historic Treaty of Brömsebro, according to which Saaremaa (Ösel) went under Swedish rule. This period in the history of Saaremaa is treated as one of the stages of rapid development. “Hopefully the period of charter flights will act as a milestone in golf, and strengthen the image of Estonia as a golf destination,” added Kaldoja.
