Latvian canned fish producer Karavela, who owns the "Kaija" product line, turned over EUR 32.4 million and earned EUR 1.04 million last year, the company informed LETA.

Compared with 2013, when the company turned over EUR 29.79 million, its turnover has grown 9%, while profit indicators increased 29%. In 2013, the company earned EUR 803,961.

Karavela's co-owner and marketing director, Janis Endele, says that last year was significant because the company managed to complete a seven-year cycle, during which it implemented its market diversification strategy, increasing sales volumes in Western Europe and Scandinavia.

"2014 was the first year in the company's history when the sales volume on western markets exceeded those of the traditional CIS markets. The company's achievements were also recognized by the state, as in December 2014 Karavela won the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, and Economy Ministry's Export and Innovation Award 2014," says Endele.

In 2014, the company produced a total of 47.5 million cans of fish and processed 470 tons of other fish products. The largest export markets were Sweden (16.3%), Denmark (12.7%), Russia (13%), and Azerbaijan (7.6%).

Karavela was founded in 2001. Its share capital is EUR 49,700.
