International Airport Riga is planning on a 5% increase in passenger turnover this year, which would allow the airport to once again see passenger turnovers exceed five million, the airport's chairman Andris Liepins told LETA.

He said that three-month passenger turnover this year is already 7.7% more when compared to the same period last year, meaning that the airport will most certainly exceed the most cautious forecast of 4.5 million passenger this year.

Liepins said that the arrival of new airlines and the additional number of flights to and from the airport could allow the airport to once again reach an annual passenger turnover of over 5 million.

As reported, in 2014, the Riga International Airport provided its services to 4.8 million passengers, which is 0.4% more than in 2013, the airport informed LETA.

A total of 21 airlines – airBaltic, Aeroflot, Belavia, Brussels Airlines, Ellinair, Finnair, LOT, Lufthansa, Nesma Airlines, Norwegian, Uzbekistan Airways, Ryanair, Transaero, Turkish Airlines, Turkmenistan Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, Onur Air, SAS, Swiss International Air Lines, Wizz Air and Smartlynx.
