Domestic tourism grew by 1.7% in Lithuania in Q4

In The fourth quarter of 2014, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, the number of domestic tourists with at least one overnight stay increased by 1.7%, whereas the number of outbound tourists decreased by 0.9%, informs LETA/ELTA.

In October-December 2014, more than 532,000 domestic tourists travelled across Lithuania with at least one overnight stay. The number of same-day visitors increased by 1.8% and exceeded 2.8 million. The average expenditure per trip by local tourists amounted to EUR 54. People spent the least on leisure and recreational trips – EUR 24 and visits to relatives and friends – EUR 37.

 

Whereas people spent the most on shopping and health improvement trips – EUR 130 and EUR 138 respectively.

 

Most domestic tourists visited Vilnius (23%), Kaunas (17%), Klaipeda (16%), Alytus (15%) and Utena (8%) Counties. Less popular were Siauliai (7%), Panevezys and Marijampole (4% each), Telsiai and Taurage (3% each) Counties.

 

Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter of 2014, the number of outbound tourists totalled 306,000. As much as 75% of all trips abroad were personal trips, the rest were business trips. In the last three months of 2014, Lithuanian tourists spent EUR 173 million in foreign countries, EUR 481 per tourist on average.

 

The most popular destination in the fourth quarter of 2014 was Belarus, visited by 14% of outbound tourists. It was followed by the United Kingdom (13.5%), Latvia (11.5%) and Russia (5.4%).
