In 2014, a total of 3.79 million passengers used the services of Lithuanian airports, mostly Vilnius International Airport. Compared 2014 with 2013, the number of passengers in Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports increased by 9%, while the number of flights increased by 10%, writes LETA/ELTA.

According to Gediminas Almantas, CEO of Lithuanian Airports, the growth was influenced by the current business development environment, ever increasing mobility of people and the fact that Lithuania is becoming more attractive to foreign tourists.

"Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet and American business magazine Forbes named Lithuania among the top-three destinations this year, thus we hope to welcome even more visitors," said Almantas.

The number of passengers increased in all three airports, Vilnius serviced 2.9 million of them. From Vilnius people most often flew to London, Frankfurt and Riga. Kaunas Airport serviced 724,000 people, summer holiday destinations were the most popular. 133,000 people used the services of Palanga Airport, they most frequently flew to Copenhagen.

The number of flights in all three airports in 2014 was 47,000. Wizz Air, Turkish Airlines and SAS contributed to the growing passenger numbers the most.
