Lithuania to participate in Foodex Japan 2015

Lithuanian Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas who paid a working visit to Japan noted that Lithuanian representatives intend to participate in Foodex Japan 2015 exhibition and proposed to organise business missions to Lithuania for representatives of the Japanese food sector, informs LETA/ELTA.

Each year Lithuanian textile companies take part in the Interior Lifestyle exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. Taking into consideration the well developed Lithuanian textile sector, the minister of economy invited Japanese business representatives to visit Lithuania, where non-profit organisation Enterprise Lithuania would organise individual meetings with textile companies and introduce co-operation opportunities more widely.

 

Presenting Lithuania's innovation policy, Minister Gustas noted the goal to create effective scientific research and experimental development system that would meet technological requirements of enterprises, would be attractive to foreign innovators and companies. The minister called for Japanese businessmen and scientists to take advantage of Lithuania's scientific research and experimental development infrastructure and to participate in joint projects.

 

The Lithuanian delegation headed by Minister Gustas met with Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yuko Obuchi; heads of the Japanese Business Federation Keidanren; Member of the House of Councillors, Chairman of the Japan-Lithuania Friendship Diet Members' League Hirofumi Nakasone.

 

The minister of economy, together with Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akihiro Ohta, attended the multilateral meeting of tourism ministers, the event presenting Lithuania's tourism opportunities as well as the opening ceremony of the tourism exhibition JATA Tourism EXPO Japan 2014 and the introduction of Lithuania's business opportunities organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in Japan.

 

The meetings emphasised and discussed ways to enhance bilateral co-operation in the areas of attracting investment, export and tourism. Ongoing and possible international and bilateral projects were discussed.

 

According to the minister, Lithuania was presented as a country attractive to investors due to the advantages of its investment environment: favourable labour cost and quality ratio, fine specialists and modern and well developed infrastructure. Gustas said that Lithuania is interested in attracting investors in the area of information and communications technologies, logistics, vehicle parts and electronics, textile and food sectors.
