Opening a route to Tallinn can be of interest to aviation firms

Nearly 800 managers and experts from 85 aviation companies have convened for the 2012 Routes Europe, the region’s annual flight route development forum, in Tallinn, looking for possibilities to open new routes, LETA/Postimees writes.

Organising the aviation conference has been a long-term dream for the Tallinn Airport and all Estonians who use air transport can benefit from it. Tallinn Airport board member Erik Sakkov has labelled hosting the British aviation information company UBM Aviation's three-day conference Routes Europe 2012 even a jackpot.

The majority of companies that convened for the conference do not fly to Tallinn yet. Adding even 2-3 firms to the list who do would be a victory.

Postimees said that several of the aviation firms it talked to at the conference confirmed some interest towards flying to Tallinn. Turkish Airlines already announced at the conference of opening the Istanbul-Tallinn flights. This decision was the result of longer negotiations though.

In addition to opening new direct routes, Tallinn Airport has another wish at the conference – to find a company that would be ready to fly from Asia (mainly China) to Tallinn so that Estonian Air could fly passengers from there to Europe, the daily said.

The 2012 Routes Europe opened on Sunday and ends on Tuesday.
