Big Auction of Works of Art at Rietumu
BC, Riga, 29.04.2020.Print version
In late May, a big spring auction, conducted by the Auction House Artembassy in cooperation with Rietumu Bank, will be held in the premises of the bank.
And, starting from 15 May, a pre-auction exhibition will open in the art gallery of the bank, where all who are interested can see the lots to be presented at this auction.
Artembassy holds auctions in Rietumu Bank’s premises twice a year – in spring and autumn. Traditionally, the auction is conducted both directly in the bank’s art gallery and, simultaneously, by using means of remote communication that allows the participation of connoisseurs of art not only from Latvia and its neighbouring countries, but also from other regions of the world.
This year, the situation with Covid-19 has meant the introduction of some changes to the format of the event. The auction will take place on 30 May, whereas the question of how it will be held this time – including the classical version, in the presence of the public, or exclusively online and over the phone – is still open.
In any case, regardless of the format of this auction, 316 excellent works of art – paintings, graphic works, sculptures and applied art will be offered, among them particularly valuable and unique items, which are rarely accessible on the market.
Participants of the auction will be able to acquire true pearls of art created by the most recognised masters of Latvian painting, including Vilhelms Purvitis, Romans Suta, Aleksandra Belcova, Janis Valters, Janis Tidemanis, Ludolfs Liberts, Valdis Kalnroze, Eduards Kalnins, Leo Kokle, Janis Pauluks, Herberts Silins, Miervaldis Polis and others.
In the applied arts section, unique artistic and historical artefacts are presented - pieces of jewellery made of silver and gold, works of art made of bronze and porcelain.
The catalogue of the auction has already been released - clients of Rietumu Bank can receive it in the bank’s office. In e-form, the catalogue is available on the Artembassy website.
A pre-auction exhibition in the Rietumu Bank’s art gallery in Riga can be visited starting from 15 May, on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. When watching the lots, please take into account the restrictions imposed due to the current situation with Covid-19 and keep the required social distancing.
The auction will start on 30 May at 12:00 local time (GMT + 3).
